Forestry mulching in Central Texas: compact track loader mulching head grinding a stand of cedar into fine mulch

01 / 09

Forestry mulching

Forestry mulching in Central Texas is the core of what 9 Arrow does. We grind trees and brush where they stand, keep the soil in place, and leave a fine finish you can drive over.

  • No burn piles. No hauling. No mess.
  • Compact track and articulated wheel machines
  • No size limit on the trees we mulch

Finished Quality

It does not get better.

Forestry mulching and land clearing from 9 Arrow leave a fine mulch finish you can drive over, with no burn piles, no hauling and the soil left in place. On-site rock crushing turns loose surface limestone into a compactible road base. Both are real 9 Arrow jobs, before and after.

The family behind the name

Nine children. Nine values. One name.

"As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth." Psalm 127:4

John and Camille Wheelock started 9 Arrow from Texas ranch roots and years of building custom homes. In 2014 a project with a developer and a surveyor put a forestry mulcher in John's hands, and it became the heart of the business. We treat every property like our own, and a job isn't finished until we're proud of it.

They cleared our 20 acres in Bulverde where Bulverde Market Day is held and did a great job! A year and a half later the land looks incredible. They are so easy to work with and have great communication (which is hard to find!)!
Ashley Cooke, Bulverde
9 Arrow is an amazing company mostly because they are amazing people! Diligence, honesty, integrity through and through! Talented operators that listen and communicate well.
Travis Roberson
John is one of the best in the business. 9 Arrow has cleared over a dozen properties for me, and every project has been handled with exceptional attention to detail.
Zach P.
I have had 9 Arrow do multiple jobs for me and they come through every time. This business operates with all the values you'd expect from a Central Texas, Family run company.

More answers in our FAQ

Does 9 Arrow price land clearing by the acre or by the day?

9 Arrow shows land clearing estimates by the day or by the acre. The number comes after a discovery call, a site visit or both, once the crew understands the vegetation, the terrain and the access. Density and terrain change how fast a machine moves, so the estimate follows the land itself.

What affects the cost of clearing an acre of land?

The cost of clearing an acre depends on vegetation density, tree size and species, topography, access, maneuverability and soil conditions. Thick growth on steep, rocky ground takes longer than light brush on flat ground. A tree that takes an hour on a smaller machine can take as little as 15 minutes on a large one.

What is forestry mulching?

Forestry mulching is a land clearing method that grinds trees, brush and vegetation where they stand. 9 Arrow's forestry mulching handles light regrowth, dense brush, large hardwoods and mature trees with no pushing, piling, hauling or burning. The ground is left covered in fine mulch, and the soil stays intact.

Does 9 Arrow remove stumps and root balls?

9 Arrow leaves root balls in place during forestry mulching because they keep the soil stable. When full removal is needed, such as under a future foundation, the crew grubs with bulldozers and excavators. The pulled root balls are then mulched on site, which 9 Arrow prefers over hauling them away.

Can 9 Arrow get rid of old brush piles?

Yes. 9 Arrow mulches existing brush piles on site, including old bulldozer piles as large as a house. Mulching replaces burning, which is often prohibited during Texas burn bans. The pile is ground into fine mulch on the property, so nothing has to be loaded, hauled off or burned.
